JIRA CLOUD RESOURCES

Atlassian Jira Cloud is an awesome solution for over 40,000 businesses world wide, but it can be difficult to wade through all of the information available for enterprises.

We teamed up with some of the world's top Atlassian Cloud minds to create a central location for you to stay up to date about Jira and Confluence Cloud.

This page was created on 15th of February 2024 to coincide with Jira Server end of life and we will be updating it every week with new information, resources and sections.

MIGRATING TO JIRA CLOUD

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you should be well aware that a few years ago, Atlassian signaled to the world that they were ending the life of their beloved Jira Server product and that customers were required to make a choice.

To move from Jira Server to either Jira Data Center or to Jira Cloud.  To make it real, Atlassian also declared to the market that it would officially end support for Jira Server on February 22nd, 2024.

What has eventuated, is that typically, Jira customers have been adopting one of these three strategies;

  1. Immediate strategy to migrate to Cloud
  2. Migration to Data Centre 'forever'
  3. Migration to Data Centre as a 'stop-gap'

Ok, so some of you might observe that some people have decided to just not do anything, but as this resource centre is all about best practices, we're going to pretend that thats not happening!

If you've not yet finalized your cloud migration project - watch this informative webinar from expert, Michael from SPKAA.

The Risk of Not Moving from Jira Server

So the Jira Server End of Life date has passed and anyone who is still on Jira Server should be worried.  Although Jira Server is a highly stable product, the biggest risk to anyone left on the platform is the known security vulnerabilities.

In 2023, we hosted a webinar with an expert cyber security from BlueRidge Consultants.  In that webinar, we discussed that critical vulnerabilities will not be addressed by Atlassian after EOL for Server but also, that cyber criminals will likely see this as an opportunity to seek out and target unsupported Jira sites.

PROTECTING YOUR DATA

If you've had a thorough look at Jira Cloud, shared responsibility and analyzed your own data resiliency strategy - you'll be aware by now that there are some serious gaps in what you get 'off the shelf' with Jira Cloud.

In fact, most Jira Cloud customers come to realize that they are at risk of the following situations;

  1. Accidental Damage - where a user deletes or updates important information and its not backed up
  2. Systematic Damage - where a system process such as a script, or data import damages data
  3. Malicious Damage - where data is damaged on purpose by an internal staff member or a cyber attack

To help you navigate those risks, we've created The Ultimate Guide to Jira Data Protection, which is an informative eBook for Jira Cloud admins. Download here
